Budget Pumps fall into four broad categories:
Fountain Pumps - PondMate and Aquagarden Series
Submersible Fountain Pumps are specifically designed for outdoor use.   They have long, flexible power cables with sheathing appropriate for Australia's outdoors.   They represent the Premium end of the Budget Pump range and include many features you would normally expect only in much more expensive pumps.   As well as incorporating features such as protection from over heating,  they come equiped with fountain heads and 10 metre rubber jacketed power cables as standard.   They can also be operated "In Line" (outside the pond) if required.

Utility Pumps - PondMate Series
PondMate Utility (Circulation) Pumps are Submersible Pumps suitable for use in aquariums,  hydroponics,  fountains and irrigation systems.   Models ranging in size from the PM700P upwards can also be operated "In Line" and incorporate protection from overheating.   Other feature include integrated flow control and foam pre-filters on pumps in the range PM700P to PM8500P.

Filter Pumps are pumps rated for "solids handling".   They come equiped with strainers but do not require foam pre-filters.   Consequently they are also suitable for pumping polluted water in Pond Filtration systems.

PondMate Pumps are Marine rated.  As such they are suitable for salt water as well as fresh water or tap water (but  not  heavily chlorinated water - such as in swimming pools).

All PondMate and Aquagarden pumps come with 2 year Warranties.

Basic Pumps
Very inexpensive submersible pumps, designed for situations where premium performance is not required.   Basic pump models generally come with a 1 year warranty.

240 Volt Pumps come with 3 core power leads terminated with 3 pin plugs (excluding basic pumps less than 700 lph).
Low Voltage models of some PondMate Utility Pumps and Aquagarden Fountain Pumps are also available.

Filter Pumps (also known as Solids Handling or Dirty Water Pumps) are designed to allow some solids to pass through the pump without causing damage to the internal pump mechanism.   The pumps come with inlet strainers to filter out solids which are too large for the pumps,  but they do not require foam prefilters.  

These Pumps are ideal for irrigation, hydroponics and pond filtration systems.   They can operate submerged in the pond or operate out of pond (when the pump is installed  in-line ).   When operating in-line, the inlet pipe must contain a strainer with openings no greater than the openings on the strainer that comes attached to the pump.

Although very inexpensive,  Via Aqua Pumps still provide excellent performance.   The  Tornado 750 Pond pump comes equiped with an external cage strainer.   It is ideal for ponds where debris may accumulate over time.

The very small Deco One pump comes with an indoor "Plug Pack" transformer.

All   Pondmate,   Cyclone & Mako   low voltage pumps come with IP44 rated transformers, suitable for safely positioning outdoors if required.

Aquagarden Cyclone and Mako Fountain Pumps also come equiped with a set of fountain heads.
